One of the greatest lessons members of a Mastermind learn is those who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of another.
Have you ever looked up in the sky during the spring or fall and seen a group of Canadian Geese flying overhead? As each goose flaps its wings, this creates an “uplift” for the other geese behind it. They know by flying in the “V” formation, the entire flock adds a 70% greater flying range than if these geese flew alone. Our Mastermind gets a similar lift from the other members of the group.
A huge lesson is learned when a Mastermind member skips a few weeks. You see whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of attempting to fly alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the uplifting power of the geese immediately in front. If you have as much sense as these geese, you will start your own Mastermind TEAM and you will stay in formation with those who are headed where you want to go and this is huge, be willing to accept their help as well as give ours to others.
In a Mastermind group it pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing the leadership role–with people, as with geese, we are interdependent on each other. We must learn the lesson from our friends the geese that when a lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies at the point position. In our Mastermind group we have a number of leaders who step up when needed, to write blogs, create website, train, invite guests, nominate speakers or host the meeting at their location.
Listen as the geese fly over, what you’ll hear is the geese in formation honk from behind to encourage the geese up front to keep up their speed. In our Mastermind group we need to make sure our honking from behind is encouraging, and not something else. This is key to a Mastermind TEAM’s success.
One of the most amazing lesson’s we can learn from the geese and if we have as much sense as geese, we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong. You see when a goose gets sick or wounded, two geese will drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. These geese will stay with it until it can fly again or dies. Then they will launch out on their own with another formation or catch up with it’s original flock.
The power of Mastermind is tremendous. How’s your TEAM doing?
